Beautiful Wedding Flowers at The Bloomstead — Local, Fresh, Flexible and Low Stress

You’ve pinned the inspiration boards. You know the colours you love. And you want your wedding flowers to feel natural, personal, and unforgettable.

But traditional wedding florals can be expensive and some couples have discovered that local florists are fully booked months — sometimes more than a year — in advance, especially for peak summer weekends. Because The Bloomstead grows seasonal flowers right here on our farm, we can often provide buckets of fresh flowers for weddings with much shorter notice.

If you’re planning a wedding in Thunder Bay, DIY wedding flowers can be an affordable, beautiful and flexible alternative.

You bring the vision.
We’ll grow the flowers.

This bride purchased four buckets. She had enough flowers for five very full bridesmaid bouquets, plus her bridal bouquet, with enough left over to decorate a wedding arch simply. With smaller bouquets, she could have also created boutonnieres for the groomsmen, or simple table centrepieces.

A Wedding Experience to Remember

Many couples tell us one of their favourite memories from the week of their wedding was gathering with their bridesmaids, sisters, or moms the day before the wedding. With lots of laughter, friendship, and quality time together arranging bouquets, the not only created beautiful bouquets, they also created lasting memories together.

Instead of simply receiving arrangements, you and your favourite people get to create them together. And the result is something uniquely yours. Even if you’ve never arranged flowers before, simple hand-tied bouquets and mason jar centrepieces are surprisingly easy to create — and we’ll share a few tips when you pick up your flowers.

How Bloomstead DIY Wedding Flowers Work

1. Choose Your Buckets

Flowers are sold by the bucket (about 40 stems each).

A typical wedding might use buckets for:

  • Bridal bouquet
  • Bridesmaid bouquets
  • Boutonnieres
  • Table centrepieces
  • Ceremony arrangements

As a guide:

  • Bridesmaid bouquet: ~15–20 stems
  • Bridal bouquet: ~25–40 stems depending on fullness

We offer three bucket styles so you can balance budget and dream flowers.

A Note About Seasonal Flowers

The Bloomstead is a micro urban flower farm in Thunder Bay. Everything we sell is grown right here — from seed, tuber, corm, bulb, or cutting.

That means our flowers follow the rhythm of the northern growing season. We currently book weddings primarily for: Late July, August, and early September. We won’t have peonies in August or dahlias in June, but we will have some really beautiful flowers to fit most aesthetics.

We may have flowers as late as Halloween depending on the weather. The upside? Your flowers are fresh, local, and completely unique to the season of your wedding.

Pickup & Timing

We harvest flowers early in the morning when stems are fully hydrated. You can choose a pickup time that works with your wedding schedule.

We’ll also give you simple tips to keep your flowers fresh and beautiful until your ceremony.

Why Couples Choose Bloomstead

  • Locally grown flowers from our Thunder Bay farm
  • Fresh, seasonal blooms that feel natural and romantic

  • A memorable DIY experience with friends and family
  • Chemical-free flowers safe to handle with bare hands

Booking for 2026 Weddings

Because we are a small farm, we can only accommodate smaller weddings (up to four buckets). If you’ve discovered that your chosen florists are already booked for your date, our seasonal buckets allow you to still have beautiful fresh flowers.
