Whether you’re brightening an everyday moment, celebrating a milestone, or gathering around the table with people you love, we bring the beauty and abundance of the North to your home and events.
Lisa is a country mouse who grew up learning to bake bread and preserve the best of the season at her grandmother’s elbow. But as an adult, she’s never been able to escape the city. So when she and her husband moved back to Thunder Bay in 2023 as empty-nesters, she finally had space to grow.
She cleared trees to let the sunlight in, built raised beds with recycled lumber, and started experimenting with what could thrive in this new-to-her growing zone. The greenhouse came next. Then more gardens. Never one to do anything halfway, she dove into learning the old-fashioned skills she remembered from childhood — making butter, custard from scratch, bread with local flour, preserves, and all the things that turn a kitchen into the heart of a community. The perfect pie may not exist, but everyone asks for seconds of dessert around her table.
Somewhere along the way, Jenna moved to Thunder Bay as the business began to grow. The Bloomstead then became a family project when Jenna joined Lisa in sharing those first flowers with the community.
A Life Rooted in the Seasons
Living beside Lake Superior teaches you not to waste a season.
We watch for the first daffodil blooms and cut them to warm up the house after winter. Summer fills the garden with armloads of flowers, baskets of herbs, and berries waiting to be picked. Autumn brings apples, pumpkins, and the last dahlias before frost quietly closes the garden for another year.
At Bloomstead, we’ve learned to make the most of every harvest.
The flowers that become bouquets brighten kitchen tables and celebrations. The blooms that are too beautiful to compost are carefully dried and transformed into wreaths, ornaments, and handmade keepsakes that let a little piece of summer linger through winter. The fruit and herbs of the season find their way into pies, cookies, jams, and whatever else is cooling on the kitchen counter.
It all comes from the same place: a desire to honour what each season gives us, and to share it with our community while it lasts.
