bouquet of dahlias, snapdragons and bells of ireland

A small weekly luxury — grown right here in the north.

There’s something about fresh flowers — a quiet bouquet on the kitchen table. Soft petals catching the morning light. The soothing happiness of something beautiful and fleeting.

At Bloomstead, we grow seasonal flowers right here in Thunder Bay so you can bring that feeling home each week.

Our 4-week flower subscriptions celebrate the most stunning blooms we can produce in our short northern growing season — dahlias, lilies, lisianthus, heirloom chrysanthemums — harvested fresh from our urban flower farm.

These are local flowers you’re unlikely to see in grocery stores. Growing blooms right here that often can’t survive shipping means it’s likely you’ll meet a new-to-you bloom or two each subscription. So our bouquets feel a little bit like discovering a secret garden.

A Flower Subscription Designed for Flower Lovers

Fresh flowers shouldn’t be reserved only for special occasions. Flowers are a small act of beauty in your everyday life. A small luxury that simply wants to make you smile and add beauty where you need it most.

Bloomstead subscriptions typically run for four weeks and highlight the most beautiful flowers blooming at that moment in our fields. The subscription ensures you receive the premium blooms that week, no rushing to the market and facing diasppointment. You can arrange for pickup later as it suits your schedule, or you can gift it to a friend. Who doesn’t love a bouquet of freshly harvested blooms harvested locally at their peak.

Pickups are available at our urban farm or at the Saturday market. It’s simple, local, and something to look forward to every week.

What Your Summer of Flowers Could Look Like

Because we have a short growing season, we appreciate the fleeting beauty of flowers all the more. Each month brings something new from the garden.

Here’s a glimpse of what might be blooming when subscriptions run:

June – specialty daffodils, peonies, lilacs, campanula, bells of Ireland, sweet peas, snapdragons, and potentially spice-scented stock, and ranunculus

July – many of the late June blooms may or may not bloom in June, but they are definitely in bloom in July. Along with our elegant soft lilies, there may be some early dahlias, we’ll have feverfew, yarrow, bee balm, and others.

August – The cool season blooms are finished so we say goodbye to stock and early lilies. The garden reaches its peak in August with armfuls of zinnias, china asters, dahlias, lisianthus, sunflowers, african marigolds, gladiolas, rudbeckia, and other seasonal fillers.

September Rich autumn colours arrive — deep burgundy dahlias, happy sunflowers in oranges, yellows, and reds, and textured late-season blooms.

October – We’ll keep the dahlias going as long as we can, but they are planted in the field so when the frost arrives they are done. We will have beautiful cottage-garden romantic heirloom mums to pair with seasonal autumn foliage through til Halloween.

No two weeks are exactly the same. These blooms are simply stunning in bouquets and many people don’t even know about them.
